Here’s a little tip. If you stay at the Wit hotel in Chicago, you get a VIP card that gives you “jump to the front of the line” access at the Roof lounge. If you want to munch and mingle at the hottest new hangout in the Windy City, it is something to think about.
Otherwise, you might not be able to get in.
The Roof is so popular that last summer when we stopped by the hotel, two blocks south of the river on State Street, the line to get on the elevator to get to The Roof snaked out the door and down the sidewalk.
Once you get to the top, you can see why.
The views are amazing from the two out door areas, one cantilevered over the street with the other looking towards the river with views of the new Trump building.
The designer of the long white communal tables with thin, rectangular fire pits down the center was clearly inspired. They add atmosphere and warmth, creating hip urban campfires high in the sky.
Heavy-duty heaters, high styled tulip umbrellas, clean lined white contemporary furniture, big screen TV’s and small comfy conversation areas make you want to linger on the Roof at The Wit.
If the heaters and fire pits simply won’t keep the chill out, there’s a large indoor salon complete with huge fireplace, glass walls and swanky deep sofas to sink into to savor a ginger martini with jumbled scenes of urban landscape outside.

Nov 17, 2009Very cool and everything old is new again…the canopies remind me of the papyrus headed columns of ancient Egyptian temples………..so many creative ways to look at forms and imagine them……. .reinterpreted. And, what could be more dramatic than a campfire in the sky at the heart of a big city………a concept we could probably have a hearty conversation about. hmmm?
