I often get asked what’s my favorite destination in the world because I like to travel so much.
My response is generally Paris. I talk about the fjords of Norway, the festivals in India or the Buddhists in Bhutan. Sometimes its the last place I visited—Chicago…. New York. ….even Saugatuck. I always find something interesting.
For sure Patagonia will be on the list of favorite parts of the world. It is fantastic. I found lots of reasons to fall in love with the remote uninhabited gorgeous part of Chile. Here are a few.
The clouds are incredible.
The scenery is jaw dropping, drop dead gorgeous. It’s hard not to use every cliche you can think to describe.
Wildlife is a frequent sight
It’s not overtouristed. There may be crowded camping areas but we didn’t see them. Tourism, which only started in the 1860s, is rather limited. I don’t think I saw a single selfie stick.
I love the funny stuff like the English translation on this sign and the bathroom signs at an Estancia we visited.
The trees are old and often sculptural.
We saw things that made me shake me head in wonder. This was a roadside alter/memorial where people left plastic bottles as offerings of worship. A bit of a mix of Catholic and Asian traditions.

Jun 18, 2018Your photos describe a place that is, by nature, stunning in its beauty and beautiful in its remoteness. A place I love in a favorite kind of way is the coast of Maine, a place where one can begin to merge with the natural world.

Jun 19, 2018Susan, Since early on – when I travel, I am looking for places of natural beauty as often as I can. But I will see that from my first visit to Torres del Paine many years ago, I find myself telling other people that they must not miss this place. Like a select few others, I find it touches the heart in indelible ways. It beauty is indeniable and its memories remain forever.
Could we want more?
