New York Here I Come. New Places to Visit

I love New York. The energy.  The excitement.  The Glamor. The Grit.  Always something new.

A recent trip didn’t disappoint.  I have three  destinations to share.

Museum of Broadway

Museum of Broadway

The Museum of Broadway is located close to Times Square.  145 West 45th Street to be exact.  https://www.themuseumofbroadway.com/

It’s a for profit museum with a store, of course. I enjoyed the seeing the history of musical theater in New York starting with Vaudeville and then the Zigfeld Follies. Seeing the costumes up close was terrific.

Costume details

The Museum included theater highlights, displays, videos and memorabilia from major shows through its history. Here are a few. Can you identify the performances?

The Museum included behind-the-scenes parts of the theater experience. We enjoyed the room with diagrams and sketches of the process of building a show. So much to see. I especially liked the costumes.

If you go, get your tickets ahead and try to go in the morning and on non-busy days. The rooms are small and the noise of the videos tend to bleed from room to room. It’s worth it though if you love theater.

Fotografiska Museum

Fotografiska Museum, New York

Another museum to visit is  Fotografiska near the Flat Iron Building. It’s a Swedish based photography museum with not only three floors of photo exhibits, but a restaurant, cocktail area, snack area and store.

It felt like a place to hang out. Interestingly it aims to be the largest private museum.

When we were there the museum featured a Hip Hop exhibit, but I liked seeing the work of Elizaveta Porodna better.

The Edge

The last destination I’ll share today is The Edge, the highest outdoor observation deck in the Western Hemisphere.  I loved it. Unfortunately I wasn’t there on a sunny day so I’ll have to go back when everything sparkles, but getting a view of the city was fantastic.

Hudson Yards, New York City

The elevator included  interesting videos of what we were passing. On the observation floor visitors could shop, buy champagne and have their picture taken. This area included a skating rink. Not sure why, but it was there.

I was more interested in the glass enclosed outside area. I loved seeing people making memories  with the glass section of floor. And of course, capturing selfies in this dramatic location.

Loved the Museum of Broadway! Well worth the visit. The Edge and the photo museum intrigue me. Next time I go, I want to check out the Fashion Institute of Technology’s museum. https://www.fitnyc.edu/museum/index.php
