Enjoying Color on the Silk Road in Asia

“Color has the power to set a mood, tell a story and to even create an experience.”

Recently I found this statement in an article in a design magazine.

This made me think about the trip I made to three Central Asia countries in June 2023. It was a photo tour so we were there to “take pictures.” Or as Adam Ansel would say, “make pictures.”

The bursts of color were magnificent. Part of the culture. A reaction to the environment. Maybe a reflection of the strong and resilient people who occupied this fascinating part of the world.

What I knew was that I loved the color in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

I’d love to share some of what I  observed.

As a former fashion buyer and writer, I loved these expressions of color in personal style.  How fun.  How lively. Not to be missed.

How people express themselves is always of interest to me.

The image below is a ceiling in a mosque. There’s something about the ceilings that are so appealing. Dramatic. Elegant. Mesmerizing. For more images of fantastic ceilings, check out an earlier blog post.

I couldn’t help but enjoy the color in the markets.  Join me shopping in these exotic countries of Central Asia.  Markets in Central Asia.

Here are a couple of restaurants that capture the passion of color.

Next you will see baby beds and the colorful covers used by the nomads when they travel from the low country up into the high plateaus in the summer.

I recently posted a blog about the train stations, but here’s another photo from Tashkent, showing how colorful the subways are. Cheerful and happy.

I’m not so sure these images are a fit with this blog, but I loved color in nature. This was a lake, high in the mountains with beautiful color. The trees naturally grow out of the water.

Here’s the inside of a yurt.  to learn more about yurts, there are a couple of blog posts on DesignDestinations. They are traditional homes of the nomads in this part of the world.    Yurts.

And lastly this child tentatively stepping outside her door. She lives with constant color.

I toured Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan with a company called Fantastic Photo Tours.

Fantastic Photo Tours.

Thank you Sheryl, I really appreciate your comment. I had a lot of fun going through the 2,000 images from that trip to find the ones that popped with color. It wasn’t hard.
