New York City Sights and Scenes

Please come take a walk with me while I wear  my Street Photography hat for this week in New York City.  I hope this blog post will convey what NYC feels like to me.

This first shot is out the taxi window. I love the hearts and sentiment.

These are all images from one day in the Big Apple.  I started that day on the High Line near where we typically stay. My first sighting is the ballet dancer “Curtain Call.” The High Line can be crowded, but it wasn’t on an early Monday morning. Delightful.

After the leisurely stroll I reached Hudson Yards at the  north end of the High Line.  I’m fascinated with the Vessel and captured a few different views.  If you want to learn more about this somewhat controversial area, check out this blog post. Hudson Yards–New York’s Billionaire Playground

One of the basics of street photography is capturing people unawares. It is totally legal but if appropriate I typically ask if ok, using a thumbs up sign or a questioning look on my face.

Sometimes I look down.  I loved this mom and her two girls with their sparkly footwear and skirts.  Off to someplace special I think or maybe this is normal for New York girls.

Rockefeller Center is a typical stopping spot on Fifth Avenue for me. During Thanksgiving Week large crews string the lights. The big lighting ceremony is the week after Thanksgiving.

I spotted this woman and child skating with the penguin helper.  I’ve always wanted to skate in Rockefeller Center and have never done it. I wonder if they have Penquins for “seniors” since I fall into that category.  Maybe?  Wouldn’t that be a sight?

Looking for something more sedentary?  How about High Tea in a bus?  I spotted lots of people lined up for their turn to indulge.

People who know me and follow my photography know I love reflections especially on buildings.

How about this one?  It’s a fashion window of Saks Fifth Avenue with reflections of  the other side of the street. It’s a little hard to figure out but I like it. The second image is Bergdorf Goodman.  I love window shopping inside and out.  It is filled with gorgeous stuff.

Speaking of pretty stuff, Here’s Bergdorf’s decor department.  Truly a fantasy.

These ornaments are from Saks Fifth Avenue.  $65 each.  Wow.  Heirloom potential.

I also often stop  in at Saks Fifth Avenue when I’m in New York just to see what’s new and fashionable.  They have redone the main floor with these colorful escalators.  Frankly I find them so visually interesting that I forget to look around so don’t ask me what is new and trendy in the fashion world. I forgot to look.

Look what I spotted farther up on Fifth Avenue.  A new store.   Louis Vuitton.   A show stopper, that’s for sure. There’s a bigger version in Paris.

I personally love the Apple Store lit up for the holidays, all minimalist and pure.

If you aren’t familiar with the High Line in New York City, enter High Line into the search box at the right.  I’ve done several blog posts about it over the years.

Come back to DesignDestinations or more about Thanksgiving Week in New York City.  I’m excited to share.

I absolutely loved your photos from NYC. There were too many I reacted to to even pick one or two favorites! As a photographer, you are able to “see” things that many people seem to miss. Reading a book now entitled “Look Again-The Power of Noticing What Was Always There”. You are a master at doing just that. Keep it up and thanks for sharing your gift with us
