New York City Newness…..

I’ve been going to NYC for all my adult life for one reason or another. Pretty much every year for some reason. What thrills me about NYC is that while I love the familiar, the stimulating and the creative, I typically find some new experience to enjoy. I love new stuff.

My last trip, November 2024 is no exception.  Spending an afternoon viewing parade preparations was one experience. Last week I blogged about that. This week I’d like to share a digital art museum in the lower part of Manhattan.

Digital art museums are popping up all over. I’ve been to one in Tokyo, another in Paris and even Chicago.  Actually the one in Paris is one of my top five things to do in the City of Light. I’ll include links at the end of the blog post sharing those experiences.

New York, of course, has one. It’s called Mercer Labs and located down at the tip of Manhattan, not far from the site of the 9/11 terrorist attack, now museum.

So, what do you do in a digital art museum. It’s pretty simple. You enjoy the changing lights and reflections.

The lights and images engulf you. Often they are reflected in mirrors. The ones I viewed in Tokyo and Paris have identifiable themes. The New York one did not. One goes to  simply enjoy the effects.

I did see room with a huge chess board where the background changed while people played the game.

Frankly this doesn’t begin to compare with what I saw in Paris or Tokyo but if you haven’t been to a digital art museum it is certainly worth a visit.

The museum is right by the Oculus, the Calatrava designed transportation center. It’s perfect for some creative photography.

And after viewing the museum I enjoyed some scenes nearby. This part of NYC has become a major tourist destination.

New York is a center for street scenes.

I walked a long way up to the High Line enjoying street art and a view of The Edge, the observation deck high in the sky.
