Taiwan: Part 2

If you enjoyed last week’s post about Taiwan, here are some more photos to see.   Do note that  when I do a blog post about a destination, I have a theme or a focus.  I had a hard time finding one with Koahsiung, Taiwan because we weren’t there very long, our visit was a rather disjointed cruise ship tour and my experience felt rather random.  It was a good experience though.  Not every place is story book perfect.

I’ve pulled together some impressions  showing what captured my attention with my camera. Hope you enjoy and feel the spirit.

I shared with our guide that I’d love to see an older home. I love historic homes. This is where he took us. If you look in the corner you’ll see a brick structure with this carved stone above it. Pretty authentic. Clearly old and but not my normal kind of DesignDestination.

We were in Asia around the time of the Asian New Year so we saw a festival area set up in a neighborhood. The festival included everything from games to roasted pigs. Lots of people in different kinds of attire showed up. I found the pink netting skirt and interesting combination with the motorcycle.

I enjoyed some of the more modern architecture, especially at night with the colorful lights and then again during daylight.  It was great to see the contrast.

We went to a night market where all kinds of food was available, much of it sold out of food trucks like this. If you needed a suitcase, you could buy one when you got your dinner. One stop shopping, huh? It was a place for games as well.

Religious structures were plentiful including  this Taoist temple on a street corner  and the Presbyterian church nestled in an area with sky scrapers.  I sent a friend who ran the Presbyterian Foundation for five years a  picture of this church via text.  He responded that he had actually attended a service there. Small world, huh?

I will end with some whimsical sights that made me smile: painted water tanks, a tourist boat and the cute little vehicles for riding around town. I wonder what their eyebrows mean to communicate.
