Coron and Boracay, Philippines

I’m learning that blogging about traveling by cruise ship has some special challenges. Every day or so you are in a different port with a different focus making the excursions or tours feel a bit eclectic.  A little bit of this and a little bit of that.

It’s a great way to see a part of the world to determine whether to return.

I felt this way about two stops on a cruise in Asia last winter now that I’m starting to sort out photographs  to figure out what I want to share.  Frankly, the ports  are tending to blur in my mind.

Often when you get off the boat, you are greeted with local entertainers in historic attire. I do wonder how authentic they are enjoyable.  They set a tone for the excursion.

The two ports I’m focusing on today are Coron and Boracay. Both are great spots for folks who like hot weather and beaches.

Coron has 12,000 residents, but two million tourists a year.  It’s a resort area with no port so our ship had to anchor and bring us to shore by tenders.

The beach was lovely.  I sat in the water right at the edge and it felt like a bathtub. Warm. Super silky sand. Gorgeous color. I enjoyed it so much I forgot to take pictures.  My husband and I took delicious naps under swaying palm trees.  Ahhhh…….delightful. I could see why people visit this area.

Here’s a few images from both ports of call.  Coron and Boracay.

I liked the harbors in the morning light.

Borocay is described as the Philippine’s top tourist draw. In fact, there were so many tourists causing so much destruction, that the government closed it for six months to rehab the beach and area in 2018. They added infrastructure. Reports on Google say it is vastly improved.

I always like meandering towns to see local sights.

We went to a fishing village to meander.  I particularly enjoyed watching the woman pictured below selling a fresh catch. I wanted to buy some just because she was so charming and persuasive.

We visited a natural hot springs, well organized with a board walk all around. It was a nice way to while away the day.  We saw tour groups like ours but locals as well.

This man was having an easy day. He seemed to be just hanging out. When he realized I wanted to take his picture he posed and smiled for me, never asking for money.  I don’t know who was enjoying the experience more, him or me?

If you follow my blogs, you know I have been experimenting with double exposures,  Here’s one from a tour of a museum on Boracay.  It was fun combining our tour guide with artwork hanging behind him using the double exposure option on my camera.
