Stopping by Puerta Princesa , Philippines

Authentic Snacks.

If you want to learn about WWII history, a trip to the Philippines is a good one to make. It seemed like every stop we made on our Asian cruise last winter in the Philippines  involved some kind of War Memorial and/or museum.

Puerta Princesa was no exception.

We were welcomed as we came into port with lots of boats and then dancers on the dock.  I felt right at home with the Coast Guard boat accompanying us into the harbor having grown up near Grand Haven, dubbed Coast Guard City USA.

Of course, we did a WWII Memorial Museum tour, interestingly housing a private collection. This topic isn’t the top of my interest list but here are a few images. It was well done.  (Not exactly a DesignDestinations, but, oh well.)

And then certainly another stop on a tour that wouldn’t normally qualify as a DesignDestinations stop was going to a Prison.  Yep. We did.

The inmates at this facility have pretty free reign. We didn’t see their housing but they seemed to be able to be outdoors a lot.  These fellows danced for us. Charming. They also had a crafts store where we bought really nice wooden chop sticks.

Mostly I enjoyed looking out the bus window at the sights and scenes of the area.  Here are some that made me smile.

I couldn’t help myself but play with the multiple exposure function on my camera to see what I could create in this environment.
