Chicago……This is how we do Halloween

by Peggy DePersia, guest blogger

As if things aren’t scary enough!

The classic goblins of our “Hallows Eve” are back and oh, the references.

As we remind ourselves at this time every year when we approach

“All Hallows Eve” or Halloween, it is historically an opportunity to honor the dead. On “All Hallows Eve”, the veil between the world of the living and the world of the dead is thin. Halloween is the gateway that allows the souls of the dead to come back to earth and walk among the living.

So, here we go…..

The ubiquitous jack-o-lantern melds the scary faces of our wildest imaginings with the harvest of every size, shape and shade of orange pumpkin that mother earth can offer.

When it comes to Halloween, skeletons have a lot to say and rattle their bones to the fall winds most scarily.

Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble…..

The witches gather and “stir the pot”. They move in and out of everywhere.

Keep watch. Even Shakespeare recognized their power.

There are the usual creepy critters like the spider and the ominous black cat. You may sense a ghost hovering in the atmosphere.

Ultimately, the fun or fear is in the power of transformation. Check out the portraits that shift from predictable to very scary…..in a heartbeat.

And, oh my, the “joker”, now legendary, seems here to stay, a twenty-first century goblin.

Closer to home, how about a couple of scare crows? Our “fav”, the jack-o-lantern BUT, let’s not forget the inimitable Frankenstein. Happy Halloween!

BOO!

Peggy and her camera toting husband, Jerry, enjoy travel near and far.
They team up to capture the wondrous moments; lately, closer to home.

Ha…what a fun DesignDestiinations entry. Thanks for the comic relief and the “scary” photos! (It’s prompting me to go buy a mask for Saturday night at my house, though I never get too many trick or treaters….which means all the more candy for me 🙂
