Key West Makes me Laugh

KEY WEST MAKES ME LAUGH

Shortly after I received my second vaccine (two weeks to be exact) I hopped on a plane and headed to Key West with my husband and two long time friends.  Wow.  What a treat.  After over a year in lockdown  including a Michigan winter,  it was terrific to head to warm weather and fun times.

Key West is a little bit goofy.  Actually it made me laugh a lot.  It was the perfect place to hang out after a difficult time.

The small plot of land at the end of a long series of keys is filled with absolutely delightful funky little homes, decorated on the  outside in creative ways.  Going for walks is great fun to see the bright colors and funny stuff.

Surely made me wish I could peek inside and see if these folks decorate their interiors with the same sense of humor.

Some residents even decorate their bikes.

The signs around the town and names of businesses often made me stop and laugh.

Sometimes you see strange stuff like skeletons in bars and pirates on porches.

Hemingway was everywhere.

Any thing goes.   People wear weird stuff–bunny ears to serve drinks–and, well, not much at all.

I enjoyed the sculptures.  An old truck decorated with stickers, folks playing cards, and a guest relaxing by the giant chess game.  All this stuff helps to communicate that this is a fun place to be.

I chuckled when I saw the newspaper.

It is interesting to see what is the most important news of the day in Key West.

It’s a lively place. We felt fortunate to be able to get out of the cold Michigan winter and enjoy some sunshine in such a Happy Place.
