“When the student is ready, the teacher will appear” is a popular, often-cited statement commonly identified as a Buddhist or Taoist proverb.
It was true for me on a recent visit to Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico. I’ve visited the Ranch many times often with a profound impact on my life.
This trip was no different.
I have had a particularly difficult year medically and was primed and ready for programs and information about the Ranch’s newest focus:Longevity.
If you’d like to know more about the ranch facilities, please click on the links below to read previous posted blogs. it has been a joy to share everything from the organic gardens to the extensive fitness class and spa treatments. But this year I needed to focus on how to regain the health I lost and get myself back in shape.
Interestingly a retired cardiologist spoke four days on the topic of Longevity ranging from nutrition to exercise and mental health all perfect for me. I also attended classes on balance and mobility.
It was just what I needed.
But not to worry that I spent all my time in classrooms. I got out and walked every day. I loved the blooming flowers and the gorgeous scenery.
The sculpture tour was of interest to me. Over the 80 plus years that Rancho La Puerta has been in operation, the owners have collected many sculptures. I found the ones about the native Americans particularly interesting.
The sculpture in front of the library had me chuckling. It is called Half Red.
I also enjoyed the tiles imbedded in a bridge and the art work in front of the Art Studio.
The Ranch has four swimming pools including one dedicated to exercising in the water. I enjoyed playing with shadows in the pool with my iPhone set on a new favorite app called AvCamPro even though the result for this effort is less than satisfactory. It makes doing double exposure possible and fun. I also liked capturing the reflections in one of the many fountains and water features situated around Rancho La Puerta.
I particularly enjoyed eating our organic and mostly vegetarian meals outside. I often get asked if the Ranch serves alcohol. Yes, there’s a wine bar with a view of Kuuchumaa Mountain that many believe is a sacred place with healing possibilities. We were surprised one day with white wine sangria at lunch.
